(ESP ALUMNI)
Previoiusly, I was Director of the Environmental Sciences Program at Texas Christian University until 2003, and I hold a Professorship in the Department of Biology and the new! Department of Environmental Sciences. I have published over 50 articles on environmental topics including toxic metals and pesticides, water resources, computer applications, and remote sensing. I am a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Toxicological and Environmental Chemistry, and was recently appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Waste Technology Institute at the University of Augsburg in Germany.
I was awarded a Faculty Research Fellowship Grant at the Puerto Rico Nuclear Center, and spent that summer in San Juan, P.R. Then, I took my first sabbatical leave of absence and worked with Dr. Otto Hutzinger at the Laboratory of Environmental and Toxicological Chemistry, University of Amsterdam, on the occurrence of toxic metals associated with fly ash from municipal incineration. In 1984, I spent the best part of a year, again with Dr. Hutzinger, but this time in the Department of Geoecology at the University of Bayreuth, West Germany where we organized the "First World Conference on Remote Sensing" and had Harrison Schmidt, the last man to walk on the moon, as our featured speaker in Bayreuth's famous Opera House.
In 1991, I was appointed to the "Governor's Task Force on Economic Transition," for the State of Texas. This 'Task Force' dealt with environmental and other issues relating to the closing of military bases and reduced defense contracts in Texas.
At the Fall, 1996 Commencement, I was awarded the Dean's Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence. It was an unexpected honor and one that I cherish in my professional career.
During 1998-99, I have been a member of the INTEL Community Advisory Committee, the Citizen's Solid Waste Advisory, Governmental Affairs, Ft. Worth City Council Member, and the Environmental Advisory Council for the Department of Environmental Management, City of Ft. Worth. And I was recently appointed by the North Central Texas Council of Governments to the OLYMPICS 2012 Committee associated with environmental issues.
On December 6, 2001, I was selected by TCU's Mortar Board Senior Honor Society as one of their "Preferred Profs" at their annual dinner. It was a festive night and I feel privileged to have been a part of their celebration.
During the Fall, 2002 TCU Fall Convocation, I was honored to be selected as one of the finalist for the "Wassenich Award for Mentoring in the TCU Community." It was my privilege and honor to be a part of the Fall Convocation Ceremony.
During the Spring 2008 Semester, I am teaching 36 students Principles of Environmental Sciences, ENSC 10143. The lecture meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am until 9:50 am in Sid W. Richardson Physical Sciences Building, Lecture Hall #4. The laboratory meets on Mondays at 12 or 2 in SWR 237.
Additionally, I am co-teaching Geology 40973, Soils in the Environment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:20 in SWR 256. The lab meets on Wednesdays from 2 - 5.
