TCU and the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) have partnered to study the diversity and ecology of a variety of organisms and their interactions with each other and the environment in South America and Indonesia. To date, six students have completed their work on the Andes to Amazon biodiversity project in Peru and obtained their M.S. in Environmental Science through TCU. All plant collection data and images are available to the public in the Atrium Biodiversity Information System being developed at BRIT. In 2009, a new project begins with TCU students, BRIT scientists and staff from national and regional herbaria in New Guinea and Indonesia, working to document the botanical and ecological diversity of the region.
Prairie Designs, LLC is a consulting firm specializing in innovative solutions for green design challenges. We have developed green roof products and other environmentally responsible services that stem from scientific research, adapting processes and designs perfected by nature.
Partners Dave Williams and Jon Kinder founded Prairie Designs after their masters research explored prairie-based green roof designs suited to the hot Southwest. We offer a patent-pending lightweight greenroof mulching tile, Xeroglade, which attractively mimics a natural prairie, coping with obstacles posed by drought.
Prairie Designs offers consulting from LEED accredited professionals, as well as project management that integrates eco-friendly technologies. We understand the LEED certification process and strive to incorporate diversified environmentally responsible technologies, including energy efficiency, small-scale power generation, on-site water management, air quality and others. Prairie Designs seeks the amplified effect these technologies can have when integrated well. Current projects include consulting with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, as well as project management for the TCU green pavilion at the PGA Colonial Invitational.
We are highly invested in green roof technology because we believe in its value across many levels including energy conservation, water quality protection, roof lifespan, living diversity and aesthetic attraction. Our zeal is contagious, and we strive to meet our clients’ needs, leaving them content, not oversold.

The TCU Department of Art & Art History is a vibrant community of creative people exploring and pursuing art and design. Our faculty includes nationally and internationally recognized artists and art historians, and many of our alumni have achieved renown in art and design fields. Superior studios, lecture facilities, digital imaging labs and seminar rooms are housed in the J.M. Moudy Building, an architectural landmark in Fort Worth. The renowned Connecticut architectural firm of Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates designed the building. Our facilities support the creative activities of all our major areas: art education, art history, graphic design and studio art. Students have ample opportunities to learn outside the Moudy building as well. The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex is home to many world-class art museums, three that are a five-minute drive from campus. The Metroplex also has one of the nation's largest concentrations of artists and designers working today, and TCU students have access to many of their studios. Students are also able to visit many important art galleries in the Metroplex. The Metroplex is a leading national market for graphic design. Students have access to some of the major design studios and advertising agencies in the nation, as well as to one of the country's most active art directors' clubs, the Dallas Society of Visual Communications. In addition to our program's many benefits, TCU offers an excellent liberal arts education. Students have access to numerous campus amenities, including an outstanding campus library with a large collection of print, sound, video, DVD and other media. Our program is designed to challenge and nurture creative minds. The TCU department of art and art history is comprised of talented individuals who are just as passionate about education as they are about art.

The mission of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge is "To enhance the quality of life by enrolling and educating our community in the preservation and protection of natural areas while standing as an example of these same principles and values in North Central Texas." This statement is the guiding principle that drives all facets of the FWNC&R. This includes their educational and recreational program offerings, location and routes of trails, and choice of habitat restoration methods. TCU students conduct research at the FWNC&R in a number of areas including habitat restoration and green roof design. |
